For more than 20 years there have been calls to upgrade and improve Edge Lane and now Liverpool Land Development Company (LLDC) has been tasked with spearheading this exciting project.

Following the decision by the Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott to give the green light to the mixed use scheme in Edge Lane West, LLDC and its partners are now able to transform the entire Edge Lane corridor into a stunning new approach to the city.

The go-ahead comes after a Public Inquiry came down in favour of the scheme which centres on the Kensington area at the western end of Edge Lane.

proposed improvements to remove the traffic bottleneck at st. cyprian's church The aim is to improve the whole length of the Edge Lane corridor from the M62 at 'M62 Rocket Junction' to Hall Lane. The highway improvements will reduce congestion and improve safety and as importantly enhance the local environment, generate new employment opportunities and provide new and improved housing

During the next few years there will be regeneration activity across the area to create a new route which also reflects Liverpool's Capital of Culture and World Heritage City status and its aspirations as a leading European city.

Highway Changes

LLDC is working with Liverpool City Council and the emergency services to minimise disruption where possible but traffic will be restricted to one lane into the city and one lane out at certain times of the day.

The improvements for Edge Lane Drive (from M62 Rocket Junction to Rathbone Road) have been designed in response to the problems associated with speeding traffic and high accident rate and will respond to the concerns of pedestrians and motorists.
